Tech Savvy in 1st grade

Using technology in schools is not to replace teachers, but to simply enhance the learning that is taking place. I want my students to be as prepared as they can when they enter the next grade level. One thing I always tell my students' parents is that in first grade I am teaching the students to read. When they enter second grade, they are reading to learn. I want them to succeed in every way possible in their future, so I don't mind exposing them to new things.

One of the most essential skills I have to teach my students are blending and segmenting  CVC words. Using my Ipad, I was able to use a variety of apps that the students were able to use as practice on these skills. I already have a lot on my plate as a teacher, so this gives them the opportunity to practice quickly while having fun.

  1. Replacing a teacher with a computer would be like replacing a farmer with a tractor....it just doesn't make sense.
